The Story That Refused to Die

Some stories arrive quickly. Others stay with you for a lifetime.

I'm currently working on the first draft of my next novella, Three Days in Thirty-Nine, a story that has travelled with me for more than thirty years.

Inspired by the extraordinary events surrounding the final Grand Prix before the outbreak of the Second World War, the project has existed in many forms over the decades. It has been extensively researched, developed for film, rewritten, set aside, rediscovered and, ultimately, found its true home as a work of fiction.

Set over three pivotal days in the summer of 1939, the novella follows a young German woman, an American intelligence operative and a British Grand Prix driver whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined as Europe stands on the brink of war.

The first draft is now well underway, and I look forward to sharing more—including the final cover—as publication approaches.

Expected publication: Spring 2027.
