The Return of The Woman in the Tree.
Original artwork by Susanna Zema.
I'm delighted to announce that The Woman in the Tree will return this winter in a new limited-edition hardcover, featuring original illustrations by the remarkable artist Susanna Zema.
The story has had an unusual journey. It first appeared as an experimental work published on Twitter, where readers followed the unfolding tale one instalment at a time. It was later developed into a novella, and now returns in what feels like its definitive form.
Set in the small town of Innswood, The Woman in the Tree follows Helen Merry as she struggles to come to terms with the devastating loss of her husband and son. When she encounters the mysterious Illusionist, she is drawn into seven extraordinary days that blur the boundaries between grief, magic and possibility.
Susanna's illustrations bring an entirely new dimension to the story, enriching its dreamlike atmosphere and creating a book that is as much an object to treasure as it is a story to read.
A dark, dreamy modern-day fairy tale of love, loss and hope, The Woman in the Tree will be published as a limited hardcover edition this winter. I'll be sharing more artwork, along with the cover and publication details, in the coming months.
